My New Love: Gramovox Bluetooth Gramophone

I am completely in love with this!! I have a thing for old fashioned things (and let's be honest, I'd also take an original Magnavox) but the old school/ new school charm of this is irresistible.

You can read more about the Gramovax here.

Was I really the last?

This month I switched all my bills to online banking. Was that the sound of your jaw hitting the floor? I know, I'm practically the last of my generation. I kind of like getting mail (even if it's a bill) and writing checks (even if it's money our of my pocket) and buying stamps (even if they're the most expensive piece of sticky paper on the planet). Call me old fashioned, but that whole process, although much more tedious, isn't something I mind doing. For the sake of efficiency, though, I will join the rest of the world. It's sometimes easier to move forward than backwards...God save the company that screws up my first online payment...

New Year Resolution(s)

Instead of doing the typical resolution where I struggle for a month or two desperately and give up completely by March, this year I want to take a different approach to the old practice. Instead of having a year-long resolution, I plan to have 12 resolutions to last one month each. I know some of you are probably thinking, "you can't create a habit in 30 days!" I know. My reasoning is to instill encouragement that I can stick with something, like working out. Knowing that the slate starts again each month will create renewed strength. I have created a page to list my monthly resolutions, so if you're interested, keep up with me - or better yet, make some for yourself! Happy New Year, everyone ;)

Waiting

For several reasons, I have decided to stay through the summer and graduate in August. The pros: cheap rent, finished research, no-pressure packing, potential journal submissions and time for reading. Cons: Still currently jobless and waiting impatiently for Prince Employment to come along, ahem, hint-hint...

Hunger Games Trilogy

This week I started reading The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, only to realize that it's a trilogy. Luckily for me, all three books have already been published, which means you know exactly what I'll be up to the next several days. I can say that this series is going quick (the more you like what you're reading, the quicker you are able to finish). I am currently inhaling the last book in the series, Mockingjay. These books are dubbed dystopian in nature, representing a futuristic world of strife and oppression.

I will not budge.

I feel somehow pressured to find a respectable job in a field that I've been educated...when I tell colleagues in my department that I haven't found a position I'm interested in, they return an almost pitiful look. Maybe it's too much to ask for a career that propells you to want to go to work in the morning. Maybe being lucky enough to have higher education to qualify for a good-paying job should induce a feeling of happiness.

(Un)fortunately, somewhere along the way, I have joined the idealists - some things are better than money like happiness, curiosity, and passion. Food trumps all these, though ;) So there you have it: I have no intention of settling on a job that does not interest me (unless I'm starving). In three months I will be moving, hopefully with a prospective position. If not, though, I intend not to freak out about it because I am not hopeless. I am ingenious and I will find what I love, even if it takes longer than I want.

Cool new website!!!

So I found this website which has a cool picture and an inspiring or thought-provoking question. I think I'll incorporate this because I like it. That's all.

Oh, and the website is here:

Answer: Just because you are able to stretch further does not mean it is the best thing for you.

Smaller size, please?

Went to the Northeast Mall in Hurst, TX - apparently they have an entire store that sells flip flops (who knew!?). Biggest flip flop I've ever seen, and it's really heavy!!!

What is this!!!?

I was really excited to try the new Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper, but during my search I found:

Green Tea Ginger Ale?? Where do they come up with this stuff? So I bought a whole case. It's fantastic, guys, and it's a really pretty can! Of course, if you don't like ginger ale, I wouldn't recommend it. I think there's a good chance I'll buy it again if they come out with a diet version. Oh, and I'll have to try the Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper, too.

No Job...

I started thinking about it, and there's only three months till graduation and I still have no job. Sure, I've known it, but it's like the gong just went off in my head. NO JOB...... I'm definitely not freaking out right now.

A great find

Less than a year ago, I was content (or at least resigned) to live life alone. It made sense to me, even as it does now, that not everyone will get married, have a family - follow the general mold. I love many people, but never have I thought, 'I can't live without him/her.' It sounds cold, but consider it: family, friends, etc....if they were removed from your life, would you cease to be you? It would be terrible and unwanted, but I think many people could continue on being themselves.

This past September, I met a friend in the strangest of ways - by answering a question he had posted online. For a month, we emailed almost every day and I eventually took a chance and met him. And thank God I did. Although he lacked some self-confidence, I still haven't found a justifiable reason behind it. He's one notch above in every characteristic I strive to be....in every way, he's a better person than I am. And because of it, I am compelled to change into a person that is fit not only to be loved by him, but to return it in full. If he were gone, I would stop being the me that I am becoming, and what a shame it would be.

I in no way think that he 'completes' me. People are whole on their own. There are people in our lives, whether co-workers or loved ones, that make us better than we would be alone. He brings out the optimism in me, however small the sliver might be. He is a great find - as is true of the many people that walk into our lives.

I don't know if we will be together in a year or less or more, but I know that at the moment, I am enjoying the change he has brought to me and the great friendship we have both discovered in the process. I hope everyone is lucky enough to have someone that they can confidently say they trust completely. It changes everything.

And so it begins.

Although this is not the start of my journey to find my passion in life, it is most likely closer to the beginning than it is the end. How, would you suppose, do I know that? Well, I don’t. It’s just a guesstimate. Some people never find their passion in life, just going along with the day to day, and I’m only in my early twenties. I’ve got a long time to find what I’m looking for if I need it (I’m really hoping God is nodding at that comment), but who wants to spend their whole life searching for what they love?

With years of searching under my belt, I am afraid to say that, as I look around, I’ve yet to move an inch. So, in an attempt to propel myself in the direction of ‘my dreams,’ I have created this page. Or maybe it is to document elements that I find inspiring and compelling. And so it begins...

This is Moses

I finally decided to get a cat. A kitty is perfect for my living arrangements and my lone wolf style. I guess it was two weeks ago, I went to the pound, and there was Moses, ready to go (sorry Beef Supreme....you'll find a home, too!!). Moses is around a year old Siamese, and he was a perfect darling up until a few days ago.

It all started with the catnip....if I had known, I would've never bought the stuff. One day he's this perfect little angel that greets me at the door when I get home and the next he's turned in to this raving spawn of Satan. Dirt is everywhere (digging up houseplants), a bag of tortillas is ripped to shreds and strung across the living room and Moses is sitting on top of the fridge...as if nothing's wrong. I times like this, I think maybe naming him Midas or General Mao would've been more appropriate.....but I'm being optimistic, darn it! Moral of the story....catnip, if used at all, should be used SPARINGLY. In his defense, Moses is probably the smartest cat I've ever met, which in this case, might or might not be a good thing...
